For Carroll Bradford, the vision for a new headquarters extended beyond creating a workplace. As a multidisciplinary construction company with diverse teams and specialties, the goal was to create an environment that could bring people together—strengthening culture, encouraging collaboration, and giving employees a shared sense of place.

A Home Away From Home

At the heart of the design is a simple idea: work should create opportunities for connection.

Emerging from a period of social distancing, the workplace was envisioned as a home away from home—an environment where employees could gather, exchange ideas, recharge, and enjoy being together again. Informal meeting areas, collaborative spaces, and recreational amenities were woven throughout the headquarters to encourage interaction beyond the traditional desk or conference room.

The existing building presented a contrasting reality: low ceilings, limited natural light, dated finishes, and physical barriers that disconnected people from one another. The transformation began by opening the interior, introducing contemporary materials, and using glass to extend daylight, views, and visual connectivity throughout the workplace.

Work Meets Play

The program balances the essential functions of a corporate headquarters with spaces that speak directly to Carroll Bradford’s culture.

Executive and private offices, open workspaces, conference rooms, and training areas are paired with a café, lounge, fitness center, indoor putting green, gaming area, podcast studio, bike storage, and an in-house screen-printing space. Tucked within the second floor, a fully stocked speakeasy concealed behind a hidden entrance adds another unexpected layer to the experience.

Together, these spaces blur the traditional boundaries between workplace and social environment, creating a headquarters designed for productivity, creativity, and camaraderie.

An Experience That Unfolds

Arrival begins within a dramatic two-story atrium, where arched windows, a sculptural chandelier, glass railings, and a custom reception desk establish a sense of openness and movement.

The first floor is centered around gathering and amenity spaces, including an energetic fitness center and an industrial-inspired employee café. Above, private offices, open workspaces, and meeting rooms create a more focused environment while maintaining connection across departments.

A feature stair physically and visually links the two levels, reinforcing the larger design idea of bringing people together. Against an exposed brick wall, a neon message captures the spirit of the workplace: “Let’s do what we love, and do a lot of it.”

From Corporation to Community

The new Carroll Bradford headquarters transforms workplace culture into something tangible. Spaces for focus coexist with spaces for conversation, recreation, and spontaneous connection, creating an environment that reflects the personality of the people who occupy it.

More than a new office, the headquarters gives a diverse organization a shared home, turning once-separated teams into a connected community.
